Despite modernization and introduction of technology within today’s globalised world, service in the defence forces remains as challenging as it has ever been, thus requiring personnel of a very high mental and physical calibre. Given the nature of the profession, defence forces personnel lead a life full of physical hardships and social turbulence. To compensate for their hardship, devotion to duty and self-sacrifice, it is imperative that the military looks after the welfare and aspirations of all personnel serving the Nation selflessly.
Seychelles needs its armed forces to protect its peaceful development. This is important for maintaining peace and managing crises. Seychelles has to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests, and to deal with both traditional and non-traditional security threats. Given these facts, Seychelles has every reason to continuously develop its military’s capabilities. Militaries of all countries need to develop, for that is the global trend, and the SPDF is no exception. Seychelles military’s development should be in proportion to its economic development, with the latter being the country’s priority.
